The GIS Data Depotä and GeoCommunityä use common compression and archival programs. We use GZIP and WINZIP compression utilities on all datasets. This allows for faster download speed and additional data to be written to each CD.
In addition, compression significantly increases storage capacity. Decompression utilities are available from a variety of free sources on the Internet, as well as links from our web site. These formats make it easy for both Win95/NT and UNIX users to extract and decompress files found on the GeoCommunityä web-site.
We will only provide those programs that are public domain and/or shareware. All other compression and archival programs will be at the users discretion to download and register.
