GISDataDepot - About Data!

GISDataDepot > About Data > Metadata

Metadata...

Most GIS Data Depotä and GeoCommunityä datasets will contain an associated metadata and readme file briefly describing the data. Many of the datasets have been downloaded from the Internet and may have no associated ancillary quality/metadata information associated with them.

In these cases, our staff has classified and catalogued the data to provide a brief description about what was found when reviewing the data. The metadata may be minimal and not provide the user with the level of detailed information necessary to make a quality judgement of the data.

If you have valuable metadata information regarding a dataset located on this site, please forward it to us so that it may be evaluated for inclusion into the future metadata and readme files for the affected datasets. It is our mission is to build a global database where GIS users WORLDWIDE can locate and download all the data they need at one location.

The more information that we as GIS users can provide regarding each dataset, the more useful and valuable the data itself will become. For more information regarding metadata and the SDTS please consult the Metadata and Standards section of our web site.

Also be sure to visit the GeoCommunity Software section to access loads of free utilities including data viewers, translators, and user scripts.
