GISDataDepot - About Data!

GISDataDepot > About Data > PC Users

PC Users - (Windows 95/98/00 & NT)

Located on our web-site are the following programs to aid in extraction and decompression of files found on the GIS Data Depotä and GeoCommunityä. They can be found in our Software section.

Note: TAR.EXE may not reside where file extraction will take place. Either copy TAR.EXE to Windows or the Winnt directory to make it executable throughout your system or provide the path to TAR.EXE.

tar.zip - within this zip file is TAR.EXE which can be used to extract files from a .TAR file.

Sample usage: (example would extract all files found in .TAR file)

Open an MS/DOS window

Change directory to where files are to be extracted

tar.exe -xvf

Recommended for all of the listed compression and archival formats is WINZIP32. It can be found for download at WWW.WINZIP.COM. PC users can use PKUNZIP for those files with the .ZIP extension. However, users will require the program WINZIP32 to extract files with the extension .GZ.

Also be sure to visit the GeoCommunity Software section to access loads of free utilities including data viewers, translators, and user scripts.
