GISDataDepot - About Data!

GISDataDepot > About Data > UNIX Users

UNIX Users - (Most UNIX Platforms)

Use the UNIX TAR command to extract files from tar file found on GIS Data Depotä.

Note: Some UNIX systems may require that you mount your CD-ROM. If so, please consult your system administrator or refer to your system documentation for more information.

Sample usage: (example would extract all files found in .TAR file)

Change directory to where files are to be extracted.

tar -xvf

For files with the .GZ extension users can download the GNU freeware libraries which can be found for download on the Internet, or links on our web site under Software. Once installed, users can easily use the GNUZIP command to decompress .GZ files.

For files with the .ZIP extension, users will need to have a version of PKUNZIP compatible with their UNIX platform. Due to the varieties of UNIX platforms, we cannot provide all the available versions of PKUNZIP. Users will need to download from the Internet a version compatible for their UNIX platform.

Note: There are several Internet sites in which users can find freeware and shareware versions of PKUNZIP for UNIX. Please refer to the GeoCommunityä Software section for links.

Also be sure to visit the GeoCommunity Software section to access loads of free utilities including data viewers, translators, and user scripts.
