Georgia GIS Data Clearinghouse WWW : http://gis.state.ga.us E-mail : gischouse@state.ga.us Date : January 20, 1997 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This readme.txt file describes the contents of the zip files found in this directory. Each zip file in this directory contains county level coverages in Arc/Info export format(e00). The coverages were built from TIGER 95 street centerline files using TIGERTOOL utility available in Arc/Info 7.1.1. and custom Arc/Info AMLS. The naming convention for each file is "tgrxxx.zip", where "xxx" is the three digit FIPS code for the corresponding Georgia county. The "gacofips.txt" file in the current directory lists the Georgia FIPS codes and the corresponding county names. County level TIGER 95 files are first converted into Arc coverages. For each county in Georgia, the following coverages are built based on TIGER 95 attributes using Arc/Info AMLS: TGRxxxCN - County Boundary (Polygon) TGRxxxPL - Census Place Boundary (Polygons) TGRxxxTK - Census Tract Boundary (Polygons) TGRxxxBG - Census Block Group Boundary (Polygons) TGRxxxBK - Census Block Boundary (Polygons) TGRxxxMC - Township/Minor Civil Division - Political (Polygons) TGRxxxSD - Unified School District Boundary (Polygons) TGRxxxRD - Road Features (Lines) TGRxxxRR - Rail Road Features (Lines) TGRxxxMT - Miscelllaneous Ground Transporation Features (Lines) TGRxxxHY - Hydrography Features (Lines) TGRxxxLM - Landmark Features (Points) Some coverages may not contain any features once imported. In such cases features were not extracted from TIGER 95. The projection parameters for these coverages are as follows: Projection: Geographic; Units: Decimal Degrees; Datum: NAD 83; Spheroid: GRS 1980 The Roads Theme (TGRxxxRD) attributes contain address ranges, wherever available. Geocoding can be performed using the appropriate attribute fileds. The 1990 Census Population and Housing statistics (STF1A, segment 1A-0) are joined to TGRxxxCN, TGRxxxTK, TGRxxxBG, TGRxxxPL, TGRxxxMC coverages. The 1990 Census of Population and Housing Block Statistics are joined to the TGRxxxBK themes. Other STF1A segments (1-9) can be joined to these coverages using the "logrecnu" field. Please refer to the on-line documentation for STF1A field definitions at http://gis1.state.ga.us/st1_view1/. The Clearinghouse is working on creating a complete metadata for these datasets.
