1. IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

1.1 CITATION (8.1) ORIGINATOR: Illinois Department of Natural Resources (8.2) PUBLICATION DATE: 1994 (8.4) TITLE: Streets and Highways at 1:100,000 by County

1.2 DESCRIPTION 1.2.1 ABSTRACT: Streets and highways for all of Illinois and portions of surrounding states. Derived from the US Geological Survey 1:100,000 Digital Line Graph files, transportation layer, 1980-1986. The Interstate, US, and State highways are current as of 1993 and augment the roads included on the analog 1:100,000 base map series. Publication dates of the USGS maps used as sources range from 1980 to 1986. The maximum estimated error in horizontal position based on National Map Accuracy Standards is 167 feet. Attributes include jurisdictional classification (ie, interstate, US and State highways), route numbers, functional classification (ie, 4 lane divided) and others. Note that the functional classification of roadways is the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation and is subject to change. 1.2.2 PURPOSE: These data are appropriate for use in local and regional thematic analysis. Data are not appropriate as a geodetic or engineering base.

Such consultants may not further reproduce or redistribute these datasets. None of the data on this CD-ROM shall be electronically duplicated on magnetic or optical media for use by others, in whole or in part, without permission of the appropriate custodial division within DNR.

Any hardcopies utilizing DNR datasets shall clearly indicate their source. If the licensee has modified the data in any way they are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have performed on the hardcopy map. 2. DATA QUALITY INFORMATION

2.1 ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY 2.1.1 ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY REPORT: Attribute ROADCLASS. Classes 'road' and 'street' differentiate the township 'grid' of roads (road) from residential streets and spurs or subdivisions off of roads in non-urban areas (street). 2.2 LOGICAL CONSISTENCY REPORT: Data set is topologically structured linear data with nodes at all intersections. Pseudo nodes (nodes between arcs with common attribute values across all non-system attribute fields) may exist on some arcs.

2.3 COMPLETENESS REPORT: No statement of completeness was provided with the original USGS DLG data. Visual inspection and use suggests that coverage is comprehensive but reflective of the date of source map publication date. This date varies across the state. All interstates and toll roads contained in USGS 1:100,000 DLG files are included.

2.4 POSITIONAL ACCURACY 2.4.1 HORIZONTAL POSITIONAL ACCURACY 2.4.1.1 HORIZONTAL POSITIONAL ACCURACY REPORT: Accuracy of 1:100,000 analog map based on USGS National Map Accuracy Standards.

5. ENTITY AND ATTRIBUTE INFORMATION

5.2 OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION 5.2.1 ENTITY AND ATTRIBUTE OVERVIEW:

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: ROADCLASS 2, 2, I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Functional classification of roads. Based on highway route numbers contained in original DLG files and on the 1993 Official Highway Map of Illinois, Illinois Department of Transportation. ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION SOURCE: DLG files, 1980-86, USGS and IDOT county base map series. DOMAIN: 1 = Toll Road 2 = Interstate 3 = Interchanges 4 = US Highway 5 = State Highway 7 = Road 8 = Street 9 = Trail 11 = Weigh station or rest area

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: CLOSURE: 1, 1, I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Line digitized as extensions required for connectivity, for example a line digitized to join a road broken for an underpass when originally mapped. The redefined item CLASS combines ROADCLASS and CLOSURE. ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION SOURCE: Digital Line Graph Files, transportation layer, 1980-86, USGS DOMAIN: 0 = arcs that are not closure lines 1 = closure lines

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: ROAD-ATT: 3 3 I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Contains DLG descriptive code, defined in USGS DLG Users Guide. ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION SOURCE: Ill. Dept. of Energy and Natural Resources DOMAIN: 601 - In tunnel 602 - Overpassing (recorded as closure = 1) 603 - Under construction 605 - Labeled old railroad grade 607 - Underpassing (recorded as closure = 1) 608 - Limited access 609 - Toll road ( recorded elsewhere) 613 - In service facility or rest area 615 - Bypass route 616 - Alternate route 617 - Business route

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: USGS-CLASS: 3 3 I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Type of road as coded in DLG file. ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION SOURCE:Digital Line Graph Files, transportation layer, 1980-86, USGS. DOMAIN: 201 - Class 1 highway, no division 203 - Class 1 highway, centerline of separate lanes 204 - Class 1 highway, when single lane, not part of divided highway, is clearly unidirectional 205 - Class 2, no division 207 - Class 2 highway, centerline of separate lanes 208 - Class 2 highway, when single lane, not part of divided highway, is clearly unidirectional 209 - Class 3 road or street 210 - Class 4 road or street 211 - Class 5, trail, i.e foot, bike, pack 219 - Class 4 road or street, one way 221 - Class 3 road or street, one way

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: Route Numbers: 3, 3, I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Route numbers are contained in a single item which is subsequently redefined to deal with coincident routes (routes carrying more than one highway route number). Any route having a value for route 2 or 3 should also have a value for route 1. Arcs may contain route numbers for multiple types of routes (i.e. INT#1 = 15 and US#1 = 51). COMMENTS: Although ROUTE# is included as an attribute to carry county route numbers this attribute is very incomplete. Generally county roads will be coded as ROADCLASS = 7 and residential streets coded as ROADCLASS = 8. ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION SOURCE: Digital Line Graph Files, transportation layer, 1980-86, USGS. DOMAIN: INT#1, INT#2, and INT#3 - Interstate route numbers US#1, US#2, and US#3 - US highway numbers STATE#1, STATE#2 and STATE#3 - State highway numbers

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: ROUTE: 2, 2, C ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Alpha numeric route names for roadways such as A or AA. Very incomplete.

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: NUM-LANES 2, 2, I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: The number in the field indicates the number of lanes represented by the arc. Percentage of completeness is not known. DOMAIN: Number indicating the number of lanes represented by the feature.

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: COINCIDENT 2, 2, I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: DLG feature code indicating the type of feature in other DLG data sets with which this arc is coincident. This attribute was carried over form the original DLG data set and has not been checked or maintained. DOMAIN: Refer to USGS DLG Users Guide.

ATTRIBUTE LABEL: SOURCE 2, 2, I ATTRIBUTE DEFINITION: Indicates source of the arc. DOMAIN: 1 = Original DLG file 10 = Digitized from IDOT maps by ENR staff
