KY 2001/2002 OrthoImagery

MrSid Format
State Plane Coordinate System 1983
The data is divided into two state plane zones - North and South.

General Information:
The Digital Ortho Quarter Quads (DOQQs) for the project are projected in the Kentucky State Plane Coordinate System in either the North or South Zone, NAD83, using U.S. survey feet as units.

The MR_SID file associated with this metadata file was compressed using the Lizard Tech Geospatial Encoder 1.4. Files are compressed at a 20:1 ratio. MR_SID files are accompanied by a MR_SID world file (.sdw extension) to facilitate Georeferenced display.

Purpose: The uncompressed GEOTIFF DOQQs are used in the Kentucky Statewide Digital Basemap.

Supplemental_Information: The USGS DOQQ standards can be found and downloaded from the USGS website at http://rmmcweb.cr.usgs.gov/public/nmpstds/doqstds.html or for more USGS Geospatial Standards go to http://mapping.usgs.gov/standards.

The Kentucky OGI developed a cross-reference table and renamed the original USGS files to match an index developed by the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet, Office of Information Services for referencing USGS 7.5 minute topographic quadrangles. The renamed files were copied to CD-ROM disks using a tiling scheme which accommodated twelve DOQQ files per disk. The tiling scheme was developed by the Kentucky OGI for internal DOQQ file management. The tiling scheme meets the need for storing DOQQs in uncompressed format in either UTM or KY State Plane Coordinate Systems. Two tile indexes were generated, one covers the North Zone, and the other covers the South Zone of the Kentucky State Plane Coordinate System.

The final DOQQ products are delivered in tiles according to the Kentucky OGI tiling scheme using the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet, Office of Information Services naming convention.

The meter to U.S. Survey feet conversion factor used was: 1 meter = 3.2808398 feet
