GNIS-P contains names and point locations of populated places ( villages), locales, schools, cemeteries, and other miscellaneous features shown on USGS 1:24,000 scale quadrangles. Some features, such as trails, had multiple coordinates, but only the first set were used for this point cover. Data for this coverage were developed from the USGS GNIS-CD (1991). Approximate size of exported file 1,311 kB per entire coverage

TYPE Type of place-name feature named.

airport Man-made facility maintained for the use of aircraft; (airfield, airstrip, landing field, landing strip); 2 items total Man-made structure carrying a trail, road, or other bridge transportation system across a body of water or depression; (overpass, trestle); 51 item A man-made structure with walls and a roof for protection of building people and/or materials but not including a church, hospital, or school (q.v.); 9 items Man-made waterway used by water craft or for drainage, canal irrigation, mining, or water power; (ditch, lateral); 2 items total

cemetery A place or area for burying the dead; (burial, grave, burying ground, memorial garden); 1059 items total

church Building used for religious worship; (chapel, synagogue, mosque, tabernacle, temple); 118 items total
